Actually I'm still playing M3 so I can't answer that, its killing me too. HOWEVER there is another theory about the leveler: (i'm not queting anything)
The leveler is an abstract being that takes form in a certain being (PROBABLY, BUT NOT NESSECERY the greatest hero), and in this form sets out to destroy the myth world.
My M3 manual is at my friend's house but what I think I remember that is specifcly written there, is that Moagim used tireces's knowledge and power to destroy the world. This although obviously true, lead me to believe that the leveler simply siezes power over whatever being is strong enough to throw out a campaign to destroy the world.
As mentioned earlier I'm not done with M3. And so far I only know that Mjarrin is the head of the warlocks, and Moagim Reborn is the leveler. (you can spoil it for me), I've yet to understand how Mjarin was also the leveler. But refering to what I explained, remember that according to that theory, the leveler isn't restricted to a specific hero. I think we (myth community) have actually came up with that theory way before M3.
