I thought it was some Division of the light that defeated him there since there is a J-MAN that sais he was in that battle and than he helps you find his scepter in M2.
But I still agree with what you said, either way it creates a contradiction with another theory,
I always wondered if the plan to kill Balor was made up originally by Alric or also with tips from the head, and since now we know clearly that Myrdred and the head worked together, then it means that if Alric did take tips from the head then Myrderd would know that Balor might die.
Or maybe Myrdred's retreat has nothing to do with Balor's death?
There was even a more complicated theory about the head's plot. Let's say he plotted with myrdred and told him where to capture Alric, this is probably true due to what happened. BUT Alric learned about the link between the fallon lords to Balor during his captivity and than released, so if this was also all intended to happen then the head did have something to do with Balor's death.
Agh , who knows...
BTW, M3 owns if you have a good PC, it demands preformance from your video card like nothing else i've ever seen. So far I'm only on level5 cause I can't play it at home and I gotta lich on my friend's PC.
