First of all, I think that the warriors mentioned in the story are the souls of ancient warriors (from the first few ages) which are summoned back to thier bodies.

I think that the Banded Wasps are sentient, or at very least thier queen is, this is because the description describes them as "a peacable race" and the queen as "commanding them to raid fir'Bolg villages".

In Chrimea, Fenris is the warrior hero not the wolf, the wolf is The Dream Runner.. hmm prehaps the Dream Runner possesses Fenris at some point.

And to clear up the speculation (and errors) about the Norse Mythology Fenris, Fenris is one of the 3 children of Loki and the hideous giant Angur-boda (anguish boding). The other children are Hel, the queen of the seven worlds of the dead, and I–rmungadr, the giant serpent who surround the world and is constantly eating it's tail.

The legend of Fenrir goes something like this, after Hel and I–rmungadr were disposed with, Odin seeing what enourmus proportions these monsters could grow decided to try to make Fenris good by bringing him to heaven and treating him with love and kindness, however Fenris grew so terrible that all save Tyr were afraid of him, the gods resolved to imprison him as they had done the others.

First they forged the chain called LĘding which Fenris easily broke, then Droma which Fenris broke easily as well. The Gods seeing that no ordinary godly chain could hold him ordered the dwarves to fasion a magic rope made of such things as the sound of cat's steps, a womans beard, the roots of mountains, the language of fish, etc.

However Fenris was wary of this rope and said (yes he can talk and think) that he would only don it if one of the gods left his hand in his mouth. Tyr the dauntless was of cource the only one brave enough to do so, and so Fenrir was captured and Tyr lost his hand.

As for the shoes that people have said Fenrir was killed with, Fenrir is not killed but meerley imprisoned, accourding to myth when released he will devour the gods, the shoes were just fasioned to protect the wearer from Fenrir.
