the main problem i have with the new design is the column on the right. it's just too heavy when there's a space to the right of it before the scroll bar, and it draws the eyes away from the main text. it's very unbalancing.
i don't have quite such a problem with the lighter text, but i think that the background itself could be made a touch lighter, with a little less contrast, as the repeating pattern would be less evident...
as i'm typing, i actually find the left hand column to be a bit heavy as well. i'm pretty sure i'd get used to it after a while, but my position still stands. :P
also, i feel that the link banner at the top is a little heavy, somehow. i think it needs to blend in a little better.
but despite these criticisms, i actually quite like the new scheme. good work. :)
