: I wasn't sure about Vasya, I'll admit,
Vasya is a character in a Russian novel. Here is a site which has a picture of a guy named Vasya: http://rf-hp.npi.msu.su/~vasya/
: but Esme could
: well be an abbreviation of Esmerelda,
It's not any more than Luke (my name) is an abbreviation for Lucus, or more accurately, for Lucifer, or even Lucilia.
: and Alyce a
: Mythical misspelling of Alice.
It's a real name, definitely, and women have it too, but it was originally a male spelling.
: As for Sloan, that
: seems to be pretty much unisex.
Yeah, as much as Leslie and even Alyce.
: Certainly, there's a
: girl I know called Sloan, and I think she might be a
: bit annoyed if you assumed out of hand she was male.
: :)
Never.
: Plus, of those four, only one actually ended in
: "a". Ravanna ends in "a" though...
So does "Ravana," the principle villain in the Ramayana; he is the ten-headed, twenty-armed
god-king of the island of Lanka, in Hindu Mythology. He's an aspect of the deity of masculinity, and very virile.
"Ravanna" is a combination of the above "Ravana" and the Celtic "Ravenna," who I believe is an Irish Goddess.
