: For someone who knows all sorts of stuff about warriors,
: I'm surprised in your lack of study of ancient warrior
: figures. Those names are all indeed male. Not all
: cultures follow the rules of "ending a word with
: an 'a' makes it female" thing that we usually
: have, especially from our Latin roots of language.
: Indeed, the converse is true; "Io" is the
: name of a beautiful woman of Roman Mythology who
: Jupiter fornicates with.
I wasn't sure about Vasya, I'll admit, but Esme could well be an abbreviation of Esmerelda, and Alyce a Mythical misspelling of Alice. As for Sloan, that seems to be pretty much unisex. Certainly, there's a girl I know called Sloan, and I think she might be a bit annoyed if you assumed out of hand she was male. :)
Plus, of those four, only one actually ended in "a". Ravanna ends in "a" though...
