It details the cycle pretty well.
In a thousand years, the savior of light SHOULD arrive to defeat the dark. But since the side of the light came out victorious when destiny said they had to lose, the cycle may be really screwed up. In two thousand years, the next harbringer of darkness should rise up to defeat the light. So, assuming Alric is the Leveller's choice, either Alric will return in a thousand years as a powerful evil to rebalance things, or as a weak evil to be killed by the new hero as I believe he should be.
However, since Light beat Dark, if the cycle's timeline is written in stone, a hero of light will be born into an age of light... making for some interesting possibilities.
Of course, the dark may have won after all. Assuming Balor was the leveller, it is not imperitive that he survive the war. After all, the hero of light in 1000 years won't fight Balor anyway, (just as Connacht fought Moagim Reborn, not Moagim) so his life is trivial to the cycle. Perhaps the actions he set in motion are enough to keep the world in darkness after all. Soulblighter's little crusade nearly wiped life from the face of the Earth, and I wouldn't hazard to guess who else might be waiting around for some action. Remember the other two Fallen Lords we haven't met yet?
