Myth III definitely emphasizes the "person-hood" of the Leveller spirit. No longer an abstract force which strikes those chosen by destiny, it seems to consciously choose the host whose innate knowledge and abilities make him the most dangerous weapon to use against humanity.
It also, for the first time, says that the converted Heroes are resurrected, rather than turning to the Dark in life. GURPS seems to agree with this, so I'm inclined to believe that this is an actual part of Bungie's backstory as well.
