: I rather like this theory. The Cath Bruig seal the
: entrance to this library/tomb, and one brave Heron
: Guard, protector of the empire, sacrifices his life in
: some sort of necromantic ritual and his spirit was
: bound to the place. That would explain why he didn't
: attack the narrator: because the guardian recognized
: him as a fellow Guard.
The prologue uses the term "forced into servitude," which doesn't really suggest that he's a volunteer.
: I don't think "fire" is the best desciption of
: the mahirs we see in m2, since they're completely
: black and shadowy. Maybe "dark" and
: "light" would be better terms for the mahir
: flavors?
Or maybe just restrict "Mahir" to what we saw in Myth II. There's lots of "spirit"-class creatures: Mahir; Ghosts like those we saw in the catacombs; Myth III Whisps which don't seem ever to have been human; the demonic spirits who animate Changelings. To my mind this is just one of those beings, probably never human (since it's not serving voluntarily, and Light mages don't usually kill unwilling victims and enslave their spirits).
