: "Midgard" means the "Middle Garden"

: Earth." The lattest is what Tolkien used in LotR.
: "Myrgard" means the "Garden" or
: "Land of Myr"
whatever "myr"
: means. It's a prefix that's everywhere in old myths
: and the game of Myth: Myrkvith, Myrkwood, Myrkridia,
: Myrdred, Myrmidons, etcetera. "Myrkvith" is
: a thick, dark forest that is barely penetrable. The
: LotR equivalent is "Myrkwood." The prefix of
: "myrk", from Old Norse, means
: "dark." This certainly makes the name
: "Myrkridia" understandable; "Dark
: Ridia", whatever "Ridia" are. As for
: just "myr," no idea, but I'm guessing it's
: something positive based on the fact a great city was
: named after it and an Avatara of the Age of Light had
: the name too.
Well, actually, Myrmidons are from the Greek "Myrmi" meaning ants (according to Myth, Zeus transformed a nest of ants into new people for a king who was a devout follower of him to replace those that had been destroyed in a plague. The Myrmidons still retained a number of antlike characteristics, such as being hardworking and having a high level of teamwork).
As for Myrgard, my guess would be that this is a mispronounciation of "Mire", another word for "swamp", as might be suggested by all those brownish, fetid pools and straggly grasses growing on their banks that you see in the beginning of "Sons of Myrgard". If this theory is correst, therefore, Myrgard would translate roughly as "The Gargen of Swamp", or "The Lands of Swamp"- which actually seems quite reasonable, since, in mountainous areas, having a swamp near you provides a very good source of food, like freshwater shrimp, watercress, etc. to supplement the normal diet of mushrooms. Also, if you drain a swamp, you actually end up with pretty decent farmland, although it must be assumed that, if this is the case, the swamplands outside Myrgard flooded again during the Ghol occupation due to years of neglect.
