The 20 Years War was a war of succession; two parties in conflict over who should get the throne. Since it was fought in and around Covenant, we can assume that the throne of Covenant was the one over which the war was fought. Either that, or Covenant was the capital city of the whole Province.

"The Province" actually reffers to the fields outskirting all the major southern cities (that is, their provinces). It is commonly used to describe the cities themselves, however.

: a not a conflict, but the north and the sout dosn't
: like each other. Maybe the north was independent while
: the sout was occupied of Cath Bruig
The Free Cities of the North are free from rule of the Province; they are independant of eachother and of the Province itself. That's why they're called Free.
