Remember that The Deceiver has the paralysis spell. And we do not know if The Deceiver used mind controlled minions or magical weapons to wear The Watcher down! The way I saw it was that The Deceiver, a FAR weaker sorceror, managed to use his intelligence to outwit the Mad Goat of the Fens. Like Rubican did to Shiver (or whatever his name was... he was the coolest of the 9! He looked like Balor with the armour though).
