: i think you make a good point that he changed a lot and i
: was very pissed that bungie didn't have any
: explanations about Soulblighter's character, even the
: changes weren't explained. i think the reason is that
: bungie decided somewhere during the making of MII that
: they needed to stop making a sequel to Myth and start
: making a whole new game.
Most of those changes are explained or easily explainable. The voice, for example, is because the same guy did the voices for Soulblighter and Balor, and it's a lot harder to speak in that scratchy voice for long speeches than just "ehehehehehehe", "Give my his head and I will let you live", and "Filthy Dwarves!". If you listen carefully to Balor and Soulblighter sound bites, you can hear the difference; Soulblighter's voice is still rougher, and he has a meaner attitude. Balor was kind of high and mighty, totally self-confident. "The rest of your legion as been destroyed, Alric. What more can you DO with this handfull of men?" If that were Soulblighter, he would be crazy-eyed and grinning his big toothy grin, and it would be more "The rest of your 'legion' has been DESTROYED, Alric! What more can you DO with this handfull of men!?".
: this is good, because it keeps Soulblighter from falling
: under TFL's shadow, and means it will be friendlier to
: people who haven't played TFL, but bad (in my opinion)
: because it lost a lot of the good things TFL had.
Like what? I agree the story was shallower, but that's inevitable in a sequel; mostof the history has already been told, now you can only portray current events (unless you want to drag up ANCIENT history).
: one thing that really, really, REALLY ticked me off was
: when they had the new scar on Soulblighter's chest,
: and yet there was no explanation. sure self-mutilation
: prolongs his life, but he looks pretty healthy to me,
: what's he worrying about age for?
Bungie did say something about this to Miguele Chavez (sp?), at a MacWorld Expo. He cut out his heart so he couldn't be killed unless someone found his temple and destroyed his heart there. That's why he's immune to arrows and everything except magic (and lava, apparently).
: i was expecting they would say that Soulblighter lost his
: power when Balor died, and the only way to keep
: himself alive was by eviscerating himself...
