i think you make a good point that he changed a lot and i was very pissed that bungie didn't have any explanations about Soulblighter's character, even the changes weren't explained. i think the reason is that bungie decided somewhere during the making of MII that they needed to stop making a sequel to Myth and start making a whole new game.
this is good, because it keeps Soulblighter from falling under TFL's shadow, and means it will be friendlier to people who haven't played TFL, but bad (in my opinion) because it lost a lot of the good things TFL had.
one thing that really, really, REALLY ticked me off was when they had the new scar on Soulblighter's chest, and yet there was no explanation. sure self-mutilation prolongs his life, but he looks pretty healthy to me, what's he worrying about age for?
i was expecting they would say that Soulblighter lost his power when Balor died, and the only way to keep himself alive was by eviscerating himself...
