Well, Alric is an Avatara, and every time he died, he didn't have anything special happen to him. Maybe, then, only Dark magics cause this explosive/eating-away affect, as Warlocks die in a similar way (and I don't think their magic is exactly *Light*; hell, they're warlocks after all).
So, if Alric and Myrdred, as we've seen them, were always Light, that would explain their less violent deaths.

Btw, doesn't it say in the TFL "Great Devoid" Hints, "don't listen to anything [the head of Balor] says along the way either"? I'm pretty sure it was silent every time I played. There's certainly no sound file for it visible with The Fallen Sounds
