In Response To: Re: On Sentience *PIC* (Archer »–)›)

: Thrall have about half the intelligence of an ant. That
: intelligence is put into them magically by the
: necromancer.
: Not all undead are sentient, for certain. They don't need
: to be self-aware to think and move and react to their
: environment. They work like ants or bees do in a
: collective, and they're programmed with rather simple
: instinct, and even those creatures are more complex
: than Thrall or other simple undead.

Hmm, yep I remember reading something about mini-robots running back and forth. When an obstacle is placed in front of them, they halt, turn, and run very quickly to either the right of left. The robots did exactly what ants do, which is a responce to stimuli.

: Lol, that's so debatable, I'm just going to ignore it.
: I'll just say, if they were alive, they wouldn't need
: magic keeping them animate. That's the best definition
: for undeath.

Here's my question, it sounds like an accusation but it's actually just a question:

Where does it say that magics hold up the Myrmidons? The only thing I read that holds them up is bandages. If you can give me a quote where it says magics keep them animated, not just bandages, please post it. If you can't find one, then we assume it is your assumption, and not a fact.

: Are you ok, zeph? You seem…tired, or something.
: They don't have to know who they are or what they are to
: react to stimuli.

Yep, like that true robot story I read or saw on TV once.

: Right, the lack of magic suspending its animation is what
: will kill an undead creature…definition of undeath.

Agreed. Except I don't think any of the six Fallen Lords are part of this, because I don't think they Died. Myrdred wasn't killed, he was Almost killed, but was preserved with his magics from death. Soulblighter is alive, and remains frozen in life by whatever process he used... he never experienced "death" and so isn't undead. And Shiver wasn't fully killed by Rabican, which is why the Tales says she lingered in defeat.

Sorry, but once you kill a person, you don't say "they lingered in defeat." Never. The only reason one would say something like that is if one defeated that person, who survived. If I beat you in a sword duel, but let you live, you would "linger in defeat". But if I killed you, you certainly, by no means possible, "linger in defeat." You'd be dead, not linger around.

The other 2 Fallen we know nothing about, and there is no evidence that the Watcher ever was killed besides his death in "The Watcher". In case you don't follow this, the above writings describe why I believe that the Fallen Lords only met "death" once. None of them are undead, as in, being animated by magics. When the Watcher died in "the Watcher", he died for the first [and probably last] time. When Shiver and Myrdred died in "Shiver", they died for the first [and probably last] times, and when Soulblighter died in the Forge, he died for the First [and probably last] time.

I say that because there is no hard evidence to the contrary, just speculation.

-Welly, tired :P
