If I laugh, it's because I'm truly amused. It's as funny to me as being told, "Hey, you're a crogidy old man," or, "Did you know that the Earth is flat and the sun doesn't actually exist but only the moon, and that shooting yourself through the heart with a gun will make you feel better?" I laugh just as much to such a thing as I would to a statement which seems very funny and untrue.
I do it instead of calling the person stupid or being angry. Please don't be offended by it; it's an attempt on my part to come to a compromise.
