This was a *special* conversion. :) He wasn't giving someone else his power, he was just exercising it at long range, using his double as a lens and remote viewer. Such a spell would probably take longer than is practical for use against an immediate enemy, as in Relic. He was probably setting up the spell throughout his period of entombment.
