This post is VERY intriguing to me, just the kind of conjecture I like. Just let me help you a little bit with clarifying your history. The Roman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire are totally different entities. The Roman Empire existed from years B.C. to in 476 A.D., when barbaric tribes from the north finally led to its demise. The Holy Roman Empire was created centuries later by the Frankish (French) king Charlemagne, or Charles the Great. He was crowned Holy Roman Emperor in the 9th century. The Holy Roman Empire spread Catholisism to all Europe. It was a French attempt to recreate the greatest nation of the ancient world. The first Crusades occurred in 1095, when the Roman Empire was long gone. The Empire on your map was most likely the Holy Roman. Also, it should be pointed out that while Roman architecture is well known and very distinctive, Holy Roman architecture was borrowed from various sources and was not a unified style whatsoever. The Trow tendency toward the original Roman pillars must mean they're the first Renaissance men, since they live during the Crusade years in your theory. That's all for now. Keep this stuff coming. I agree with and am interested by nearly everything in this article.
