Certainly it seems that Alric was originally intended to die there. That would tie in nicely with the "Deceiver knocks everyone else off with the help of The Head" theory; Alric gets blown up, Soulblighter fights him and probably doesn't get a chance to escape and gets blown up too, and the Deceiver's the last man standing. (Aside from the few unnamed Avatara and Fallen Lords left.)

Unfortunately we'll never know, since every time we try to measure Alric's age his name changes and then we're not sure which Avatara he actually is. It appears that the renaming correlation influence actually travels faster than light and...
