Alric was trying to rebuild the world. He wasn't going to go of and find one of the most powerful sorcerers who was being gaurded by the deady Warlocks. he wasn't going to waste precious man power. But still its a bit weird.
He went for the Deciver only because he had to. The war was turning to the bad, Shiver had returned, etc. "He has decided to fight fire with fire" also hints this. It was a risk. What if Dec didn't join Alric. He didn't know if the Deciever was already dead. And in the level you lose if the Dark get to him before you. Now if the Deciever was concious and alive well i don't think he would have lied there and be taken out by a single Soulless.
And on knowing what to resite. Twelve Motion Jeweled Skull is ancient he was probably a heron gaurd under the Deciever.
And Dec says "Close enough" meaning that only one of the words in the cantation may have been vital and the other just latin trimmings. (latin by the looks of things is the home language of the Trow because whenever stated its either magic or in relation to the Trow.)

The Mural (Myth III's journal)will be read by someone after the events in Myth II. meaning they could say "AAAh now that explains why the Deciever allied with Alric"

If you want to fit in with storyline then those 'brigands' on level 9 may have been Personnel gaurds of Alric.
In the prolouge they were Balors or Soulblighters Brigands. Cos we see a Warrior getting attacked by Ghols. Though whats with the paralasis. Who's doing that. Oh and while watching it I noticed that shied on the door looks a lot like the Warriors shields in Myth III.
And in Level 4 ummm. The "Shields" that we see the guys holding in-game were actually big circular pictures of Turnips :P
Though also note that the Warriors clothing is Yellow and red rather Purple and yellow.
