Alric's connection with Myrdred is unusual, and something we aren't told about must have been happening behind the scenes. Archer is much more well equipped to determine such a thing though!
As for the Brigands, it appears that warriors were to be replaced with brigand sprites. Then, the Baron needed private soldiers, so Bungie redid the Warrior sprites and gave the Brigands sprites to the Dark, and to the Baron.
Almost all the cutscenes have brigands where warriors should be, including the custcene before the gate of storms and into the keep. they just changed plans after the cartoons were finished.
