: Well, they didn't have the question, did they? We do.
: "What is everything?" "Everything's a
: wave." Seems perfectly clear to me. :-)

Actually, they did have a question: "What is the meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything?" The problem was that their question was too vague, and nobody really knows what it means. 42 may be the resonant frequency of the fabric of spacetime as measures in cycles per planck-instant or something; but they don't know what that question means.

Likewise, "what is everything?" is too vague a question. "Waves" is the answer to "What is the most accurate mathematical conceptualization for the base elements of the universe on a quantum level?", but that's not neccesarily the same as "What is everything?"

For instance, there may be a (or many) very deterministic 4-dimensional universe(s) that we percieve, but we (or our perceptions... see footnote) slip around in a 5th dimension which is unpercieved except that the iterations of "the" 4D universe are slightly different in each one, and wave-patterns are the best way to predict data about a given element in the 4D universe when "the 4D universe" which we percieve is actually a multitide of similar existances, and we have no way of telling which one we're in. (Alternately, "we" could be staying still along a path in our universe, while small particles slip in and out between them, etc).

Footnote: wrt "perceptions" we gets into a much more philosophical issue when we talk about what exactly is out "perception" in the universe, as separate from physical bodies. For instance, if you consider time as a 4th dimension akin to the spatial dimensions, then are we, our physical bodies, actually moving through it, passing through a series of slightly different universes?

That seems unlikely - if we were to go back in time would we not find ourselves, or anybody, still there in their old states? So what is it that's "moving" through time, or in the first of the above examples about probability, through the fifth dimension? Some sort of "outside" perception of existance, tied to the many temporal and probably iterations of a physical body, like some kind of aiúa?? Hence why this question is best left to philosphers.
