The Deciever is not freakin' dead. He's survived duals with four of the most powerful sorcerers ever known, he had no problem at all killing Shiver, he survived being stuck in the ice for 60 years, and is not ABOUT to die from a lame death explosion.
In the scripting, the action that gives you back control of the Deciever is called "He's yours until he's dead." Therefore, the scripter intended for him to die, but I believe that this is meant to be a faked death. I mean c'mon! If YOU were the Deciever, would you want to spend the rest of your life as Alric's lackey? This is the best way to go out! Make everyone think you're dead, so NO ONE expects you ever coming back! He's not ruling out any options... If he were to be like "Cya later!" they'd all think "When's he gonna turn up again?" This gives him the advantage of surprise no matter what he wants to do. Oh, and did I mention his name? The DECEIVER! As a master of deception, this is his coup de grace! It's the Deciever's latest trick.
