In Response To: Re: On the rarity of shades (Lord Raven)

: Shouldn't there by a tm after Soon? :)

Yes, there should have been; you're absolutely right 8)

: You are, of course, forgetting that unfortunate Scaripant
: character, who dies at the hands of a lowly
: warrior/j-man/archer.

He's the Xception :)

: I like to think of the Shades as pseudo-Fallen lords.
: They are certainly powerful, and their ability to talk
: would indicate sentience. So, I prefer to see them as
: individual characters (much like the Fallen Lords),
: rather than just another portion of the Dark army.

I agree; although they can't stand against a Fallen Lord, they do have personalities and names etc. and are powerful. They aren't Fallen Lords, but they aren't *mindless* undead either; they have their own category: shades. *Shadehood* is their 'nature' and their 'office'.

: BTW, I'm familiar with most of them, but when do the
: last two get mentioned?

They aren't mentioned in-game, but of you open the Shade Names string list in Fear, you can find them there.

: Also, play Sciron's solo
: campaign, and you get to deal with Nym.

Yep... just note that Nym's presence in that 3rd party map doesn't validate his existence as an actual Bungie character, it is the fact he is present in Fear that makes him a *real* character. If sciron named the shade in his solo anything other than the shade names in TFL and MII, that shade would only be a 3rd party creation; even though Nym was in that solo, what happened in that map isn't canon, but it still is 3rd party fun.

: I'd say the former, kinda like 20.

Yeah i think 30 is the max number, but 20-25 is reasonable for the total also. Then again, we could be dead wrong; this is just Welly-rific speculation :D

: Agreed, I don't see Soulblighter as a big sorcerer. Sure,
: he could use artifacts such as Tramist's Mirror and
: the Tain, but we never see him cast a spell. Cept for
: that 'World shattering thing'.
: I'd agree, although the Watcher and Myrdred, being more
: powerful sorcerers than Balor would probably be
: capable of producing them. You probably say 'OMG, LR
: is crazy, Balor rox mb'. But if Mazzarin was one, and
: Watcher is second or third, I'd but Myrded right up
: there.

But Balor was greater than the six Fallen... possibly greater then them all combined. He doesn't count on that list because he wears the Mantle of the Leveler; he is a diety for all intents and purposes.

Personally I think Connacht and Mazz cannot be listed on that particular list because it is the Narrator's list of things within his known "living memory". And Connacht and Mazz are not within his living memory.

Of course, Mazz and Connacht are probably one of the most powerful, but again, are not during that time of "living memory." So, the Narrators' list likely has people such as the Watcher, Myrdred, Balor, and Rabican. But, Balor isn't truly human; he is a diety in human form, and probably doesn't belong on that list; he is on a different scale.

But again, we are just speculating... we cannot prove any of this yet... hopefully MWA will solve our problems 8)

: Can we talk about Phelot then?

Sure, what would you like to discuss?

: We get to find out about Mazzarin Shade in TWA anyway...

Here's hoping!
