In Response To: Myth lacks an Apocalypse... (el $ker -drunk-)

: First of, I'd like to say I love reading (I'm not quite
: the theorist/creative writer myself) all of your posts
: about A-B theories and Myth being in France. The sheer
: creativity conveyed in your theories is mind boggling.

Well thanks; you're surely welcome among us.

: I think HGK is wrong when he says we should stick to the
: mythworld and not connect Myth to the real world, myth
: is to heavily influenced by real world myth for that.

Agreed, in all ways.

: On the other hand, the archerous france theory

Lol, thanks, but the original idea wasn't mine.

: shows that
: you can make a theory supported by facts to
: confabulate your own tru7h... I bet it's possible to
: theorize in absurdum, tying myth into the real world
: and coming up with a theory that makes Balor the
: shooter on the Grassy Knoll and Alric the se7enth
: spice girl.
: Like Meggs said, it looks alot like Bungie had no
: masterplan™...

Yeah

: But who cares!! I love reading all your theories as long
: as we don't stray too far, mb the tru7h is out
: there...

We'll be sure to write even more then!

: Good, now on to MY theory, well, comment.

Shoot!

: I have come to the conclusion that though Myth has an
: excellent mythology, it is has one major flaw...no
: apocalypse.

That's right; there's no one event predicted in history to be the end of the world. The closest, as Sili said, was the reunification of the One Dream. Then again, we only know very little of the past, much less what any religion in the game would tell us. Myth is the story of such a thing.

: Myth has all the elements of a major mythology: a
: creation myth, gods, demigods, heroes, good 'n evil
: etcetera.
: But it misses one major element: an apocalypse!
: almost every major mythology has one. we got the northern
: europeans who got Ragnarok, the Götterdammerung, we
: got Christianity with armageddon etc. (not sure about
: greek/roman mythology though), but myth hasn't got
: one.
: And I'm not talking cycles here, a leveler who wreaks a
: lil' havoc just doesn't cut it compared to the seven
: (yes 7: the tru7h?) bowls of wrath™...

: Mb this is something for you creative writers to ponder
: on...gl!

Well, Ghôlsbane mentioned how I brought to his attention Atlantis and its links with the Mythworld (see the link below). Indeed, not every religion may have an Apocalypse, but every religion (of ancient note) has a destruction of the Primordial Paridise. The Classical had Atlantis; the Hindus, Lanka; Judeo-Christianity, Eden; The Romans/Etrustcans, Troy; the Ancient Egyptians, Punt. All of these describe, or allegorize, a massive battle wherein the world is destroyed by this, for it somehow causes an incredible conflagration followed by a great flood, burning to ash and then washing away the sins of the past and readying the land for the creation of a new world.

All these places are described in a similar way in countless religions and beliefs in the world. I believe in the information at the site below as truth (read everything before making a decision). That's beside the point, but what isn't is that many other relgions, in addition to the destruction of Primordial Paridise, suggest that this will be repeated, that the first Armageddon which destroyed Atlantis will happen again in an endless cycle in the future (according to astrology, at the end of the Age of Aquarius). This is the same cycle of the Hindus Sili mentioned. It's the same as the Armageddon of Christianity and the Ragnarok of the Old Norse. Whether minor or not, whether repeating or merely a duel instance, this cycle from Age to Age via mass destruction followed by rebirthing creation is constant in many mythologies, including that of Myth.

“And the two armies gathered there on the plains before God to bear witness the end of the world.”
