In Response To: To Alric, Leveller=Balor (SiliconDream)

: I think Alric did know about the cycle by the end of TFL;
: or, at the least, he knows that a bad guy who was
: around before Connacht managed to possess him and turn
: him evil. And we know he's talking about the Leveller,
: even if Alric doesn't know him by any name other than
: Balor. As I saw it Alric did hope to upset the cycle
: by keeping the head alive forever.

Just like Soulblighter died horribly trying to break the cycle, I believe Alric and with him the rest of civilisation would've done the suffered the same fate had he tried. Keeping the head alive was not an option. The Fallen Lords would not fall until he was dead. That would mean that Soulblighter and some three (The Deceiver would most likely be rescued pronto.) perfectly healthy Fallen Lords would be kicking Light arse up and down the lands of men. Balor obviously *needed* to be killed. It seems it becomes harder and harder to vanquish the Leveler and that it takes more spectacular ways of killing his incarnations. I'm not even going to speculate what Connacht did to Moagim, but I still don't think he needed an Eblis Stone to immobilise him, send troops to hack off his head and then hurl that into what is the closest thing to a black hole in the known world of Myth.

: But someone on the
: Dark side (either Soulblighter or Balor himself)
: magically rigged the head to explode after Balor's
: defeat, so that the Leveller could escape and come
: back in a thousand years.

I think what happened at The Great Devoid was the still-stronger Leveler being abruptly evicted by the forces of nature from yet another host.
