In Response To: I'm sorry… *PIC* (Archer »–)›)

: I'm sorry Sili…I just found this quote from an old post
: (http://carnage.bungie.org/myth/asylum/asylum.forum.pl?read=11272):
: "Everything in the previous Myth games and Myth
: manuals is gospel. The GURPS Myth book is not.
: Trust me, all questions will be answered! :) "

: Scott says there himself that GURPS is not gospel.
: Here is a quote from Santa's Head
: (http://carnage.bungie.org/myth/asylum/asylum.forum.pl?read=11340):
: "As for the GURPS book (and I hope I'm not giving
: away a secret) Scott's opinion is something like this:
: The writers of the GURPS book forced Myth's _unique_
: views of magic and other cool phenomenea into the
: existing GURPS system. They made abbreviations in
: story and device for convenience alone. The reason
: it's not Canon in his eyes is that it is impure. I
: certainly mean no offense to the writer of that text,
: as he was just doing his best to fit a large thing
: into a single comprehensive book. Scott wants to stick
: as close as possible to the existing Myth story, and
: has talked about the original design documents from
: Bungie many times. "

: I'm sorry to bring it up again, but it's kind of valuable
: info, as MJ clearly denounces GURPS…and they have the
: full rights…and the original design documents…
: I'm done.

Naturally, since I have yet to hear that MJ has the design documents, my inference is that Scott is probably wrong here. :-)

If he does have the documents, then he's certainly entitled to pass judgment on GURPS insofar as it conflicts with those documents. Still, MJ is modifying and extending the story to fit a new product just as Seabolt was, and their estimate of how much more faithful their fit is than Seabolt's is not fact, but, as Santa says, an opinion. An informed opinion if they have the design docs, but an opinion nonetheless.

So if Scott actually jumped out and said "Yes, we have the design docs, and GURPS conflicts with them here, here, here and here," I'd rank GURPS as still canon-worthy, but below Myth III (and therefore below everything.)

I'm done too. :-)
