: Because Mazzarin was the greatest Avatara in history!
: That's like an American not knowing about George
: Washington. No one knew about Connacht/Balor because
: no one was there to see Connacht wander off and get
: Leveller-possessed. But they still knew who Connacht
: was, quite well. And the narrator knew quite a few of
: the major Wind Age facts.
Actually, to be fair, consider that the this is largely because the average American takes history lessons. And recording and learning history generally requires the recipient of this knowledge to be able to read, which, as an estimate, probably only about 10% of the people on the Mythworld can (these being mostly scholars and non-berserk Legionairres: your average peasant can not read.) And without history, all you get is half remembered legends, perhaps something like the level of knowledge that a TFL player might have who hadn't read/played any of the other supplements: He'd know Mazzarin was a powerful mage who was killed by the Watcher with an army of Thrall in the Wind Age, but not much more beyond that.
