: Hey Iron and Welly,
: Thanks much for the responses and presents.
: I've noticed in some films just how melee units can be
: tightly bunched. So far, I've been unsuccesful in
: reproducing this. The closest I've come is to set them
: in a box formation. then order them to move, the hit
: the stop key in mid movement. Is there a better way to
: bunch them together?
Yes, it involves editing your formations. Feeling brave? Ok, open Fear, scout down the list till you see "formations", double-click it. A new window opens with "internal formations" in it - double-click that. All sorts of goodies are there for you to edit, namely how many units to fit in a long line, how far apart units are spaced from each other and so on. Have fun :-)
: Yeah -- I really hate losing units, so I'll only complete
: a level if I have no casualties, or maybe lose a war
: or a zerk -- otherwise, I just start again. ::starts
: Redemption for the 19th time: And in that respect, I'm
: struggling with getting missile units to do what I
: want. Arcs/bows are pretty good -- dorfs can be a
: pain. About halfway through TFL, I learned the
: command-click attack, which is pretty dang useful. I'm
: struggling with mortar dorfs now. I think the one I
: have has some kind of a past history with Berzerks,
: maybe a zerk traumatized him has a child or something.
: I'll have him attack a nice, vulnerable myrkidia, the
: dorf gives him a good shot, I hit "guard" as
: I send out the zerks to finish the myrkidia off, and
: he'll attack anyway! I'll try "stop" next
: time.... heh.
Heh, yes hit the space bar. Guard means to defend your position and not move anywhere - it doesn't mean not to shoot ;)
: Wow. That's where I'm coming short. I advance and retreat
: arcs/bows, but it's clear from some films that folks
: can move arcs _individually_ while in battle. That's
: sick. Can't wait until I can do it!
It's what Asmo & Smasher do all the time to produce no-damage films. Usually it means hitting the pause button every two seconds to see where the next javelin's going and move the appropriate unit, which to my mind is a lousy way of playing. If you can make em dodge in real-time that's much more fun ;)
cheers,
-Iron
