Hey Iron and Welly,
Thanks much for the responses and presents.
: Yes, Asmo is either a genius or has waaay too much time
: on his hands. Probably both.
: There's lots of good strategies for this, most dealing
: with multiplayer requirements (which are tougher) than
: solo, but similar principles apply.
: For melee troops, have them bunched together nice and
: tight when about to enter combat. In Myth 2, most of
: these units can swing their swords at enemies from the
: second row back, so the tighter you have them the more
: damage they'll be able to do. An exception is if
: you're facing fast-moving enemies that are trying to
: bypass you to attack a strategic objective (eg ghols
: satchelling wall breaches) or your archers. For this
: put your melee in a long line so they can't be
: bypassed.
I've noticed in some films just how melee units can be tightly bunched. So far, I've been unsuccesful in reproducing this. The closest I've come is to set them in a box formation. then order them to move, the hit the stop key in mid movement. Is there a better way to bunch them together?
: Note: When in a multiplayer game, bunched melee are
: perfect targets for enemy warlocks or dorfs ;-)
: Basically Myth 2 is a missile-strong game, so you want
: to keep your melee out of things as much as possible.
: Ever noticed melee being used for anything other than
: scouting in an Asmo/Smasher film?
Yeah -- I really hate losing units, so I'll only complete a level if I have no casualties, or maybe lose a war or a zerk -- otherwise, I just start again. ::starts Redemption for the 19th time:: And in that respect, I'm struggling with getting missile units to do what I want. Arcs/bows are pretty good -- dorfs can be a pain. About halfway through TFL, I learned the command-click attack, which is pretty dang useful. I'm struggling with mortar dorfs now. I think the one I have has some kind of a past history with Berzerks, maybe a zerk traumatized him has a child or something. I'll have him attack a nice, vulnerable myrkidia, the dorf gives him a good shot, I hit "guard" as I send out the zerks to finish the myrkidia off, and he'll attack anyway! I'll try "stop" next time.... heh.
: Archers are generally best used in a long line so that
: none are obscuring the view of others. If you're under
: soulless attack and don't have that many archers,
: putting them in loose line can allow you to see which
: archer is being targeted and dodge him around, without
: other archers being hit by stray javelins.
Wow. That's where I'm coming short. I advance and retreat arcs/bows, but it's clear from some films that folks can move arcs _individually_ while in battle. That's sick. Can't wait until I can do it!

: Hope this helps, and its good to meet someone new to the
: game :D
It does indeed, good to meet you too, and many thanks for helping out.
