: Ehehe. Can't wait for MWA to jump start the fan base
: again ;)

can't wait.. damn it'll never come at this rate :P :P :P

: But if it's a static dream for each person, it's still
: not static. Bahl'al was one of the most powerful mages
: so by your argument he should only have created the
: powerful variety, but by the fact that he can make
: several different kinds… makes it dynamic.

hmm yup thats true but perhaps thrall were his first use for the dream, then he created the shades; there is no evidence as to who created the shades. although most conjecture it was Balor i think shades existed long before him and therefore most likely were started by Bahl'al (before Balor changed his name most probably). so in a way the most powerful sorceror of the time did make the most powerful Shade, using the still static dream to his later experienced personal capability after the initial success of thralls.

: I haven't seen it's story yet but it seems to me that the
: Evils of that time were much more fragmented. Shiver,
: the Watcher, Moagim Reborn, the Trow and the Myrkridia
: were all not aligned (although we don't know about
: Shiver/Watcher they didn't seem to have a history in
: anything we've heard so far). In fact at several times
: they opposed eachother (Trow and Myrks).

yup the dark do have a bad history of backstabbing. i think it is a genetic thing. Thankfully, today there is a new drug, called AntiDark, which helps treat backstabbing and prevent future backstabbing! side effects may include vomiting, stomach cramping, severe internal hemorrhage, cholera, headache, nausea, psychotic ramblings, sudden death, prolonged suffering, gangrene, and sudden sex-change.

damn i just had to say that :P

: Some undead are more equal than others ;). Just look at
: the difference between Shades and Thrall.

ah that's because of the previous owner of the corpse was a much greater / powerful individual, and the dark magics that animate the corpse retain some of those abilities.

: But that may not be so. What we see in game is that
: they're equal in power. This does take precendence.
: Plus Alric wasn't the best spell caster. He was
: probably the most brilliant, but not the most powerful
: of the Avatara.

it is true that he wasn't the best battle mage, but he was good at something that allowed him to survive capture and live through the Great War, unlike the others Nine. whatever this was i think in M2 give him the title as most powerful light mage for that time.

: But auras are a thing from GURPS ;).

hehe i don't disagree with everything GURPS says somewhere in a previous post i classify my personal system for GURPS statements
canon - game supported statements
deutero-canon - debatable stuff that people differ about
apochrypha / peseudopigrapha- errors and plain outright mistakes

: But that's why I'm saying that it's not a dream, but
: rather a well-known nercromantic spell. Balor
: obviously didn't trust his subordinates too much.

true he didn't trust them alot.

: Had
: he given the planar travel spell to them, they could
: have summoned even more fetch or even more powerful
: stuff. Yet he didn't.

because he didn't trust them with that one, not because he didn't share any secrets i believe.
