We do know that they are intended as the Wolf Age version of Myrmidons. MJ employees told me that at E3. They wanted Myrmidons, but couldn't have them for story reasons, so they had Forsaken instead. So they're probably quite similar--I'd guess the basic difference is that they came from a different human culture when living.
