Drawing and quartering was the main form of punishment for treason in England. Until 1890 this consisted of being dragged to the place of execution, hanged by the neck (but not until he was dead), and disemboweled (or drawn) while still alive; his entrails were burned before his eyes; he was decapitated; and his body was divided into four parts (or quartered). I believe that this was first used on a Welsh prince (David) in 1283 and then on myself (William Wallace) in 1305.
