: Lemme guess, the gist of it is thus: The Covenant are a
: race that consist of three species. Right?

The Covenant may consist of more than three species, but we're likely only to meet three. The problem was, Bungie reps referred to "species" sometimes and "races" sometimes, and various people complained that, according to their biology books, "race" and "species" are not interchangeable; a race is a subspecies. So Nathan explained in a number of *extremely* annoyed forum posts that a) "race" has more than a biological definition, and can in its wider sense mean any group of beings, including (as you say) more than one species, and b) who the hell cares? It was clear what Bungie actually meant, but more people were talking about the race vs. species thing than were talking about the game itself. You'd see entire threads of "well, my Hamster's Unabridged English Dictionary defines "race" as so-and-so." It was almost as bad as the perspective fiasco. Of course, I'm doing exactly the same thing by posting about Halo on this forum, but it's not like we have anything important to talk about, right? :)

: I know that with humans, we've got a number of different
: races within our species. In Myth, I've always used
: race and species somewhat interchangably; the Ghols
: and Trow are different races and different species,
: but the Berserks and Cath Bruig are different races
: and the same species. Unit-types like Warriors,
: Herons, and Bowmen I call "groups", and a
: group can span races and species (Herons can be
: Western humans or Berserks or Bruigs, etc, as could
: Thrall. I wonder if you could have Trow Thrall
: [Troall]? Hrm...).

How would you keep the Trow from crumbling before you reanimated it? We know the Trow knew how to *make* Thrall, though. I wonder why they preferred less tractable living slaves?
