In Response To: The Missing Fallen Lords (guy)

: Maybe when the battle for Madrigal was occurring, an
: unmentioned Avatara of the Nine was fighting with,
: say, Bonecrusher in the Stair of Grief (notice how
: that location isn't a hot spot at all in TFL). Perhaps
: both of them were killed, or maybe just one of them,
: during the fight. The Nine DOES end up as the Three
: later in the game, remember.

: Just an idea. :)

The deaths of the Nine:
Two killed in the civil war.
Rabican probably died when the Watcher smashed through Seven Gates (we never again see a force labelled "Rabican" after that, at any rate.)
Murgen and Cu Roi died escaping from the Tain.

Maeldun survived the war, but later died of his wounds. Therefore, The Three must be Alric, Maeldun and one unnamed Avatara, who did not survive until the end of the war. This also leaves one other unnamed Avatara who died of unmentioned causes before the Journal Writer speaks of The Three.

All in all, though, I think it's a good theory. This is the middle ages, remember, and news only travelled as fast as a messeger, which was as fast as his horse. We don't know whether or not Alric let his messengers have horses. In any case, the Journal Writer doesn't seem to be excessively important in the ranks of the Legion, and so probably wouldn't be privy to a vast amount of information, and, with guys like the Deciever around, certainly not troop dispositions, if the Legions officers can avoid it. And in the later stages of the war, when the main body of the Legion was passing through the Barrier and the Dire Marsh, both inimical to human life in themselves and both smattered with undead, trying to maintain messages woud have been virtually impossible. Indeed, such a rare occurrence is it, he specifically mentions in his journal when the Berserk reaches their camp with the Eblis stone (although he doesn't know this at the time). I suspect that it was also this Berserk who told Alric that Madrigal had fallen. Darn, I've just written another juggernaught. Basically, yeah, there's plenty of areas that other Avatara and Fallen Lords could have been fighting that the Journal Writer wouldn't have known about.

Oh, btw, she's Bonesplitter, not Bonecrusher. Or just call her Bheil or The Lurker if you prefer. :)
