: The allusion is clearly that it was the Deciever. He was
: trying to cross the mountains, and the knots were a
: means of outflanking the Legion forces holding the
: passes. True, it _could_ have been the Watcher, or
: Soulblighter, or the Faceless Man. But the Deceiver's
: the only one mentioned in the narrative at this point.
I suppose. But the Head refers to the "enemy" as having learned to use the Knots, rather than The Deceiver himself. Actually, I always thought the Deceiver had the Head tip you off so another Lord who was using the Knot wouldn't steal his thunder. I just can't see a guy with Trow, Myrmidons and converted Light units sending a few Ghols and slow-moving undead as an advance strike force. Unless, of course, they were merely intended to divert some of the Light units so the army at Bagrada would be weaker.
: Couldn't kill an incoming shade or Trow though ;) I know,
: they'd never waste such important units on risky
: missions like this etc. Perhaps playing too
: conservatively explains why the dark really lost the
: war?
I think it explains why the Dark was winning handily right up until Balor got nailed. :-)
