Which is why I believe that Connacht set it up so he would lose...in the third book of the Black Company series, it was decided that the lady had a light streak withing her, and therefore she alled with the white rose and stood toe-to-toe with the dominator despite the fact she would sherly perish in the final battle (which was a total gip...Damn u cook!!) which I guess is alot like Darth Vader throwing the emperor off the ledge in Return of the jedi.
I say that connacht\balor had this light streak as well: even as the leveller he hated the myrkridia, I think he knew that alric would not be able to stop them, if Balor really wanted to win..why not use them? Damas was indeed the better general (big ego tho).
And lastly: I have no idea who the head is, but Ill put a half hearted bet that it is Balor's, because the pieces of this story, albeit mysteriously, seem to fit this way.
