: They certainly don't live up by the Stair of Grief
: wearing nothing but a loincloth--"Reiftyr's death
: [from cold] brings our losses to three."
I never thought they lived in the Stair of Grief, but in small coves or valleys in the cloudspine mountains. Also, I suggested that their territory would have stretched all the way to the ermine borderlands, which would probably have a climate like the Shanandoa or Tennessee valleys.
: know they raised sheep and grew--what's the grain
: whisky's made out of? Barley, right?
I think you are right.
: Was the region you're suggesting free of Dark occupation
: during the Great War, as far as we can tell? We do
: know from the flavor text that the zerks successfully
: defended their lands from Dark invasion. If any Dark
: armies are known to have marched through the area, it
: probably isn't their home. I'm too tired to go look at
: the maps for all the journal entries, but someone
: should.
My interpretation is that no fallen lord ever crossed the Stair of Grief with a force large enough to pose any real danger to the civilians if they were smart enough to get out of the way. There was probably some minor damage to their homelands, but not nearly at the scale of, oh say, the province or madrical. We also know that Tandom in all likely hood did not fall before the armies of the dark collapsed. Even if the dark armies could even mount an effective offensive after the final battle at madrical, the time it would take to get there, forcing their way through any rearguard actions the light armies could put together a siege would take weeks, possibly months. If we give the berserk who brought alric the eblis stone a month and a half to get to him from Tandom it is still very possible that the dark had not even forced a crossing at the meander.
Sense the last journal entries are all within hours of each other that leaves no more time for the dark to take Tandom before the remaining fallen lost a big chunk of their power.
That takes care of the south western approach to the berserk homeland, and we all agree(I hope) that the northern approach was effectively cut off as well. Are there any other ways to get there besides going strait through the ermine?
That lengthy explanation will probably be brought down in about 5 words=) But I can type no more, an evil book demands attention.
Respectively
