They certainly don't live up by the Stair of Grief wearing nothing but a loincloth--"Reiftyr's death [from cold] brings our losses to three." And we know they raised sheep and grew--what's the grain whisky's made out of? Barley, right?

Was the region you're suggesting free of Dark occupation during the Great War, as far as we can tell? We do know from the flavor text that the zerks successfully defended their lands from Dark invasion. If any Dark armies are known to have marched through the area, it probably isn't their home. I'm too tired to go look at the maps for all the journal entries, but someone should.
