: I take back a few things I said about Bungie. I now think
: the problem is that ever since Bungie expanded into
: the PC market with Myth TFL they've grown to such a
: large size that they no longer had as much time for
: their more "fanatic in a good way" fans. It
: seems like they've turned into that
: "average" game company that, though they put
: out excellent games, they simply don't have enough
: time to expand on the story and such. They pretty much
: just pop out a game and spit out a few bug/feature
: patches and thats just fine, but it seems like there
: was more to Bungie in the past.
you're probably right. i'm sure that in the past even the evil empire (microsoft) was as an approachable (if geekier) bunch of people as bungie used to be. it's probably just the natural pattern of things - as a company grows it has to spend more effort looking at what it's doing, rather than the individuals of which it comprises being (relatively) free to mingle with the fans.
it's probably more that marathon was closer to their hearts and more cared for by the company.
: As for the pregame journal entries: You misunderstood. I
: said that an entire novel could be written JUST from
: the terminal texts in Marathon. That means that
: nothing would have to be made up or explained that
: much. In Myth, however, you could write a novel, but I
: don't think it would be as long or as detailed. It
it depends on how it's written. it's true that bungie didn't put as much apparent effort or length into the story for myth as it did for marathon. truth be told, i relly don't think it needs it. it depends on the story.
: would be a good book, but not the epic that Marathon
: would be. This is just my opinion and though I thought
: the story in Myth was EXCELLENT, I still feel that
: Bungie made a few errors that could have been fixed by
: a simple response. Take the New Marathon Timeline that
that's probably true.
: Bungie released for Marathon. There were apparently
: some major conflicts with some of the ingame dates so
: Bungie clarified it and even added it into the game
: (Leela apparently scrambling humankind history, simple
: enough)
: As for the cinematics: In my own opinion and this is only
: my opinion, I felt that the movies took away from the
: game in a way. M2 movies were better, but when I saw
: the TFL movies I got the feeling I was watching loony
: tunes rather then an Epic Struggle Between Good and
: Evil. Anyways, Im out of breathe so I'll shut up for
: awhile :)
i actually liked the tfl cutscenes better... at least, i liked the style better, anyway.
but what i meant was more the fact that you can script cinematics in the levels. for example, there are the confrontations with balor in "the last battle" and with sinis in the escape from the barrier. it'd require quite fantastic finesse to really pull off complex story sections like this, though (also dependant on the story itself in many many ways).
