Personally, I think it's more a case of a mutual interest scenario. The Deciever, along with other... beings, provides forbidden knowledge to the Warlocks, and in return they agree to help him out when the need arises. So, yes, after the Deciever's death/disappearance/whatever they would have returned to their business.
