They definantly wuldn't have killed themselves. It's said that their relationship with the big D is pretty much at arms length. They didn't trust eachother too much but protected eachother when needed. I think that they probably left Alric and went abou their own business. The only reason they seemed to have joined with him is because the Deciever asked them too. I don't think they really needed a patron. For all we know the only reason they stuck with D was because maybe he was a warlock waaay back in the day and they take care of their own.
