Mazzarin was a hero of the Wind Age, the founder of the Avatara of Nine. He did many good things in his time. He was killed when The Watcher surrounded him with at least seven waves of, perhaps, thousands of thrall. "The Watcher" in TFL happens to have a Shade named Mazzarin in it, which is where the idea that undead Avatara being Shades evolves from. However, this is most likely a Shade that happens to be named Mazzarin more than it is likely that it is Mazzarin himself
we don't know. Since I greatly like the idea of Alric being Mazzarin reborn, this doesn't fit into the theory. That's just my opinion, though, and you should feel free to form your own theories since this is such a loose and undefined subject.
