I agree entirely, except that I have some slight disagreement with your estimate of the time between Connacht's disappearance and Balor's return. The Dark Ages last only 500 years, so if Connacht was possessed and disappeared at the beginning of the Dark Age, and Muirthemne fell 50 years before the end, that's about 450 years of emperors other than Connacht. And I think it possible that there were only one or two interim emperors; powerful sorcerers are so common in Myth that probably every leader of a state as large as the Cath Bruig would be extremely long-lived.
