: Probably both. It's most likely a cold, frozen desert
: like the Mongolian. There doesn't seem to be anything
: to indicate temperature, other than Trow can be frozen
: by the cold somewhere in the area and live (obviously;
: they're just stone and clay).
The Mongolian steppes aren't a frozen desert, but that doesn't really matter. I think that it does probably have some drastic temperature changes though.
: The title itself is "River of Blood", but this
: could just as equally be an anology to it's
: blood-redness, which is talked about in the game. In
: this case, if I had to chose, I'd definitely steer
: away from GURPS where it seems to contradict ingame
: evidence.
Your hatred of GURPS blinds you ;). It says nothing about Balor blighting the rivers and thus doesn't contradict this. It says that Balor blighted the barrier (a lot different from some red lakes) and nothing about the rivers. What turns them red however is the Iron content. Iron turns red in water and it's obviously that which does it because the Trow were obsessed with Iron and there's a level name called "pools of Iron"
