: The Myth engine does allow for unhealable damage, so I
: think the Soulless text represents the exaggeration
: common with retellings of stories. Other things like
: the general number of units and the paralysis
: representation of the bleeding death fever probably
: are engine/gameplay restrictions.

However, consider the effect on gameplay--specifically, play on any level with Journeymen or Heron Guards--if the most common Dark missile unit were able to inflict unhealable damage. And the very fact that the Myth engine allows for unhealable damage suggests that at least one attack was meant to cause this in a prerelease version.

I'm thinking that in prerelease Soulless *did* do unhealable damage in-game, but Bungie removed this (and any other examples of unhealable attacks) after observing how it screwed up the utility of healer units. They kept it in the story, though, and I'd go with that--or perhaps split the difference and say that Soulless javelin wounds are unhealable *except* by powerful magical means.
