: The comic and other sources suggest the Trow only
: exterminated those races that challenged them, not all
: races. As the Forrest Giants are clearly not violent
: by nature, it seems to me FGs would not have been one
: of the races that challenged the Trow, and may very
: well be an ancient race.
Just to clarify what Forrest said: The Trow treated elder and younger races differently. Elder races were always wiped out, so far as we know. High-profile, powerful younger races were enslaved if they could be, like Oghres and probably Ghôls, otherwise usually exterminated. Low-profile, weaker younger races (like early Humans) were simply ignored.
Given how reclusive, powerful, and independent-minded the Forest Giants are, they were probably impossible to enslave, too hard to kill but comparatively easy to ignore if left alone. So the Trow just turned a blind eye.
: Here's where you confuse me. If FGs were one of the first
: creations of Wyrd (or Nyx), wouldn't they be an
: "ancient race?"
So far as we know, Wyrd only created the Younger races; the Elder races were made by other gods and were just frolicking on the world he created. It may be that after the shattering of the One Dream, Wyrd lacked the power to kick them all out and populate the world with his own creatures. He had to wait until the intruders had severely weakened themselves with the millennial wars.
