: let me begin this by telling you that this whole post
: shook me. I have never seen you like this before but
: this whole post was dripping with sarcasm and
: condescention. Not only that, but it was directed at
: someone who you all but revered a few months ago.
Oops, that stuff was meant to lighten the mood more…it's not like we haven't talked about this a lot before; I've never been a proponent of GURPS, except for a two day period before and after I got the book. I still do revere him as I have in the past as well. Oddly enough, Forrest never told me too much I didn't know beyond GURPS information, yet I still am thankfull for that information he gave me…one might expect that I'd be more disdainful of him, but I'm not in the slightest :-).
: If anyone had MythCanon straight it would be Forrest.
: He's probably spent the most time pouring over facts,
: reading GURPS, posting on the Asylum, etc... than the
: rest of us combined.
Yes, but putting a lot of time into something doesn't necessarily guarrentee a person's speciality. In this case, it pretty much does, but most don't.
: I strongly disagree with this. To me, however
: contradictory the sources are (as Forrest pointed out
: in his depressingly pessimistic post), anything Bungie
: sacntioned is Canon. Anything non-Bungie sanctioned is
: not. The only huge gripe I have is Bungie itself
: changing the cycle's length. I view all other
: fallancies and mistakes as possible half-truths or
: hidden facts, much like our own history there is much
: hearsay, legend and theory to sort through. Therefor
: the Games, Manuals, GURPS and Chimera are all canon in
: my book. What Bungie tells people isn't canon until it
: becomes written down or shown in game.
Well, Bungie made a lot of mistakes and doesn't care about us. They were careless, stupid, wasteful, and this is all probably why they ended up being bought out by Major Microsoft. Stick with ingame only.
: Theories and plugins are probably the least canon-like
: things. No matter how much we hold our theories dear,
: they are not fact. Neither are such masterworks as CoD
: or LoGA. Cool they may be, they are as third party as
: you can get. Pre-Release information on the other hand
: is more than that. I personally wouldn't use it, but
: it does have Bungie's stamp on it, however outdated.
: I could point out many, many things that are wrong
: in-game as well. My view of GURPS still stands
: although it is flawed. Perhaps Bungie should have
: checked a bit more closely, but it's too late now.
Ingame as in storyline. It is also what is of the story within the levels. There are minor things as well, and we must take into account the story, not the limitations of the engine, etcetera. It's like a movie; we are presented with an illusion, a film that we actually play out. The original scripts and such are like this. It's just as much a tool as these words are now, aslbeit flawed from true reality.
A lot more closely, mb…
: This was the part that I really had a beef with, not
: because you are wrong in anyway, but because of your
: tone. At least treat others with respect when you
: disagree with them. I hope that you will go back to
: your old self, but I can do nothing about it.
Really? My tone? That was innocent; I merely tried to lighten the mood, ensure that my statement was not meant to be harsh or extraordinarily debating in tone. I didn't want to seem so purely obstinent and only more jolly, not a stone. I hadn't realized I'd come off like this.
