In Response To: Forrest, Forrest, Forrest… (Archer »–)›)

let me begin this by telling you that this whole post shook me. I have never seen you like this before but this whole post was dripping with sarcasm and condescention. Not only that, but it was directed at someone who you all but revered a few months ago.

: You need to get straight in your head what Canon Myth is.
: :-)

If anyone had MythCanon straight it would be Forrest. He's probably spent the most time pouring over facts, reading GURPS, posting on the Asylum, etc... than the rest of us combined.

: The only pure and truthful canon material of Myth is
: ingame. More specifically, from the lastest game in
: the series. After that in degree of law come the
: manuals, which are sometimes wrong, and so ingame
: takes over. Bungie then might tell us things or
: present other canon things, such as Chimera or what
: they might tell little birdies to whisper in Forrest’s
: ear :-D. GURPS follows this with its extreme and
: frequent errors, though a good resource of ideas and
: theories. Theories by Asylumites and the like come
: after. Plugins and third-party stuff that is based off
: of all before come then. Finally, the most useless and
: non-canon thing of all is the Pre-Release.
: Did I leave out any sources?
: So the order of Canon Myth goes as follows: 1.) Ingame
: 2.) Manuals
: 3.) What Bungie Offers Us (outside of the original
: material)
: 4.) GURPS
: 5.) Theories
: 6.) Plugins Based Off Of Above
: 7.) Pre-Release
: These things are all “canon”, but to varying degrees.
: Technically, only ingame is canon, and therefore
: everything else is nothing if Ingame didn’t say it
: first. Pre-Release is barely anything. Theories can be
: believed (often are), so they’re warented more than
: Pre-Release, especially the good ones. Again, only
: Ingame is True Canon.
: Gurps is approved by Bungie, you say? So were the
: manuals, but they’re sometimes wrong. GUPRS is often
: wrong. Hence, this order falls into succession, and
: the chain of canon command is complete.

I strongly disagree with this. To me, however contradictory the sources are (as Forrest pointed out in his depressingly pessimistic post), anything Bungie sacntioned is Canon. Anything non-Bungie sanctioned is not. The only huge gripe I have is Bungie itself changing the cycle's length. I view all other fallancies and mistakes as possible half-truths or hidden facts, much like our own history there is much hearsay, legend and theory to sort through. Therefor the Games, Manuals, GURPS and Chimera are all canon in my book. What Bungie tells people isn't canon until it becomes written down or shown in game.

Theories and plugins are probably the least canon-like things. No matter how much we hold our theories dear, they are not fact. Neither are such masterworks as CoD or LoGA. Cool they may be, they are as third party as you can get. Pre-Release information on the other hand is more than that. I personally wouldn't use it, but it does have Bungie's stamp on it, however outdated.

: Now, that section in GURPS which talks about the Fallen
: Lords, titled “The Fallen Lords” on page 99, is
: blatenly a loser of credit. It indicates clearly that
: Balor was a Fallen Lord, which he was not, thereby
: screwing over the entire section out of its own
: credibility. GURPS is not a tool to be used lightly or
: primarily, which it proves time and time again. It is
: tainted in every place, and by the very fact that it
: is not meant to be anything more than a gaming
: instruction book, not an encyclopedia.

I could point out many, many things that are wrong in-game as well. My view of GURPS still stands although it is flawed. Perhaps Bungie should have checked a bit more closely, but it's too late now.

: Lol…The Faceless Man is still a valid name for a Fallen
: Lord? Why not Lurker any bit more? They were never
: talked about ingame, ever, as were the unmentioned
: Avatara, and should be taken as such: unnamed and
: without identity.
: “And the last Fallen Lord has yet to be revealed!” This
: one cracks me up! There are only six Fallen Lords,
: which it states clearly in the beginning, and mentions
: all six it believes to be Fallen Lords. It then, at
: the end, says that line! LOL! You really believe this
: guy, Forrest? Ol’ Geney didn’t even bother to finish
: the game for you before he wrote his book. I bet he
: had a reason to say that…(such as the obvious one,
: that Seabolt was trying to inspire people to come up
: with their own RPGs, not to accurately deleniate
: history, in any way)

This was the part that I really had a beef with, not because you are wrong in anyway, but because of your tone. At least treat others with respect when you disagree with them. I hope that you will go back to your old self, but I can do nothing about it.
